Privacy Policy for Download Pilot
Last Updated: 2026-02-20
This Privacy Policy describes how the Download Pilot Chrome extension ("Extension," "we," "us") handles information when you use it. Download Pilot helps you auto-organize downloads by file type and generate meaningful filenames using page context (e.g., page title, image descriptions) or optional AI. We do not save or store your personal information.
1. What We Access (Only for Naming)
When you start a download from a tab, we read limited content from that page solely to suggest or apply better filenames and folder paths. This may include:
• Page title and meta descriptions (e.g., og:title, description).
• Image descriptions: alt text, captions, or related text on the page (not image pixels or file content).
• Link text and URLs on the page, used only as context for naming.
• Audio/video metadata on the page (e.g., title or description text), not the media content itself.
We do not collect your browsing history, account data, or any personally identifiable information. This page data is used only at the moment of download to build a filename; we do not store it on our servers or save it for later use.
2. How We Use This Information
• To auto-sort your downloads into folders (e.g., Images, Documents, Video, Audio, Archives).
• To generate or suggest filenames based on the page you are downloading from (title, image alt, domain, etc.).
• If you enable optional AI naming: we may send limited context (e.g., page title, hostname, image alt text) to the AI service you configure, only for naming suggestions. That use is governed by the AI provider’s privacy policy.
3. What We Do Not Save
• We do not save user information. We do not operate servers that store your page content, download history, or personal data.
• Your preferences (folder rules, naming templates) and optional download history are stored only locally in your browser (or in your Chrome sync account if you have sync enabled). We do not have access to or copies of that data on our side.
4. Permissions and Why We Need Them
• Downloads: to set the save path and filename when you download.
• Storage: to save your preferences and optional download history locally.
• activeTab / tabs: to read the current tab’s title and page context only when you trigger a download from that tab.
We do not use these permissions to track your browsing or to read data from tabs where you are not downloading.
5. Your Choices
You can disable the extension, turn off smart naming or AI naming, or clear the extension’s local storage at any time. Uninstalling the extension removes locally stored data.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top will reflect the latest version. Continued use of the Extension after changes means you accept the updated policy.
7. Contact
For questions about this Privacy Policy or Download Pilot, please contact us via the support channel listed on the extension’s store page or on this website.
